We have massive needs amongst our young people today, not least in Enfield, and we set up Transitions UK as a charity nearly five years ago to meet the needs of what many have called a “lost generation” of young people. In Enfield we have launched our Aspire Project to support local young people who are at risk of criminal exploitation or offending – and we need your help and support!
The project works primarily with 14-15 year olds who are referred from school or health services and by Police and Social Services. We offer an 18 month to 2 year programme of mentoring and befriending in which young people will receive around 6 hours of support per week. Each young person has their own personal support team of 2-3 mentors. We work with the young person around life planning, skills development and promoting positive choices, as well as behaviours and encouraging them to move away from unhelpful relationships, including gangs.
The project is just launching in Enfield but one young man we have helped in Stevenage has been successfully moved away from a local gang and supported into an apprenticeship in the construction industry. His behaviour has improved dramatically and he is helping with his siblings and supporting his mum. Mum said:
“Thank you. It feels like
I have my son back”.
How can you help? >>>
- People of all ages to volunteer an hour or two per week to mentor. Full training is given.
- Partnerships with local businesses to offer work taster sessions and apprenticeship opportunities.
- We don’t yet have any local funding,
and we need regular donors or businesses who will sponsor or part sponsor a young person.
- We need people to take part in local fundraising events and challenges on behalf of Transitions UK and the Aspire Project.
- We are also looking for Pastoral contacts in Enfield’s Secondary Schools. Please contact us if you would like us to support your school.
For more information, please contact Gemma Kennedy, Aspire Enfield.

Yet another successful event – truly magical!!!
We all had such a fantastic time.
I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t making things – even as a kid. I would cut apart my own clothes to make outfits for my Barbie dolls, styling their hair and creating a catwalk of my creations.
